Presentation of the report on discrimination against indigenous people in Mexico
Center Prodh presents the report “Imprisoned by discrimination: The arbitrary detention and conviction of innocent indigenous people in Mexico,” which will be presented to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in Geneva in February.  The report documents serious human rights violations committed against indigenous people in the criminal justice system.

International Urgent Action: Eva and Marcial still missing
  On January 17, 2012, the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders based in Geneva, Switzerland, requested the urgent intervention of the international community due to the lack of progress in the investigation into the forced disappearance of human rights defenders Marcial Bautista Valle, President of an environmentalist organization in Guerrero, and Mrs. Eva Alarcón Ortiz, Coordinator of the same organization. A call for justice as community water defenders reach two years of imprisonment
  José Ramón and Pascual undertook a project to benefit their entire community by providing it with free access to potable water, but they were unjustly sentenced to nearly 7 years of prison due to their defense of their community´s rights. In view of this situation, Center Prodh and the Ellacuría Human Rights Institute issue the following press release as the victims mark two years of imprisonment.

Presentation of the testimonies on the forced eviction of Guatemalans in Tenosique
  On January 12, 2012, Center Prodh, the Executive Secretary of the Pastoral Dimension of Human Mobility, Without Borders, I.A.P., and Usumacinta Human Rights Center (CDHU) held a press conference to denounce the abuses suffered by the community of Nueva Esperanza, composed of dozens of displaced Guatemalan families, at the hands of federal and municipal police forces under the command of the National Migration Institute on 9 January 2012, in Tenosique, Tabasco.
